Is your garden ready for a new look? There are some things you need to take into account when picking a garden design; whether you plan to plant and care for it yourself or hire a professional landscaper and upkeep team.

The first thing to look at is what kinds of plants grow well in your region. Local nurseries, the garden department of your favorite home improvement store and online searches for “best plants for ‘your area’” are all good places to start your plant search.

The next thing is to select a garden that fits your personality, lifestyle and size and layout of your yard. Here are a few examples of common garden types.

English gardens feel less structured than most gardens and contain a variety of plant life. Common plants you will find include roses, climbing ivy, perennials and herbs. These plants are intermixed rather than being grouped collectively by type. Gazebos, trellises and dirt or stone pathways work well in English gardens.

Japanese gardens are about harmony with nature. They include such features as ponds, stone pathways, and statuary. Japanese gardens do not use a large variety of plants. Plant types frequently found in these gardens are evergreen trees, shrubs, bamboo, and Japanese maples.

A butterfly garden is just what it sounds like; a garden designed to attract butterflies. By growing plants that caterpillars and adult butterflies like to munch on, you can increase the butterflies in your yard. Popular butterfly nectar plants include butterfly weed and purple coneflowers. Butterfly gardens work well as borders between fence lines and grassy areas.

Don’t worry if the plants that typically go with the garden you like best are not ideal for your region. Determine what it is you like about those particular plants (their color, shape of their leaves, height, the sizes of the blooms, etc.) and look for plants that grow in your region that have comparable qualities. This is when hiring a professional landscaper or consulting with your local nursery is definitely to your advantage.

Now it’s time to take a few minutes and go look at your garden space and picture your dream garden. Remember that it’s your garden, so make it your own, even if that is mixing multiple styles together.

With the huge variety of lawn mowers available on the market it can be very complicated deciding on which lawn mower could be the best on your property.

You will find about three primary types of lawnmowers, they are the cylinder, the rotary and also the hover lawnmower.

The rotary lawnmower is among the most common from the 3 and it is suited to almost all types of homes as there are numerous kinds of rotary lawn mowers which are designed for any lawn which you might encounter.

You can even purchase self propelled rotary mowers for steep gradients or just for the simplicity in which you don’t have to push the mower. If you want a truly light model, then you certainly should choose something like tghe Bosch Rotak 320, as it weighs in at only 4.8kg. A more powerful model, yet still extremely light would be something like the Bosch Rotak 37li, which is a cordless mower.

Cylinder mowers are far better if you’re wanting a highly groomed lawn and these are the kinds of mowers that are used on sports grounds where the lawn needs to be in the greatest condition feasible.

They are the lawn mowers which happen to be responsible for the striped grounds that many of us so often see today at sports events.

The 3rd kind of mower is definitely the hover mower which floats on top of the grass just like a hovercraft and these are specially simple to use.

They could be managed in any way and therefore are great for mowing steep banks and areas that would be hard to trim having a standard lawn mower.

Once you’ve decided upon what sort of lawn mower might be best on your property, then you will have to look at all the several makes and models to find the greatest value for money.

One of the best areas to start out are the internet sites that provide price comparisons as well as testimonials of products.

You’ll be able to see what other people have to say of the different versions and you may also be able to search for the best rates.

It will save you a lot of bucks by buying your mower at the right place therefore you must take some time and research all of the choices fully.

Gazebos are usually free standing structures or attached to a building and are often found in outdoor areas like gardens and parks. There are a number of different kinds of gazebos including pavilions, pagodas, rotundas, pergolas, follies, and kiosks. Outdoor gazebos have been in use for many years and are becoming increasingly popular because of the different materials that are being used that make them perfect for home use. These days you can enjoy a gazebo in your own backyard.

Wrought Iron Gazebo

Wrought iron gazebos are also available in a wide variety of designs, colors, and styles. Wrought iron gazebos are a very popular choice with homeowners because they are long lasting and hold up very well in nearly every weather condition. Because these gazebos are available in many different sizes, it’s possible to find one that will fit in any space, no matter how big or small the space is. Many homeowners install their wrought iron gazebo over a garden, which looks amazing.

One of the differences between the wrought iron and other gazebos is there is no enclosed roof, which means that anything inside the gazebo needs to be water and weatherproof.

Back Yard Gazebo

A backyard gazebo can really make a back yard look complete. Additionally, there are many different uses for a back yard gazebo such as a bar or hot tub enclosure. This is becoming a very popular item for homeowners to install in their yards, whether its an attached or freestanding gazebo.

Most of the gazebos made for homeowner’s backyards are smaller than those that are found in public places, but if you have a very large yard, they certainly make large ones to choose from. These units larger or small, normally have a roof and many have roofing on it much like that on a house, with shingles, while others are a solid wood roof.

When choosing a back yard gazebo, make sure to think about the common weather conditions of your area. For example, if you live in a warm climate with very little rain you won’t have to working about finding one that will stand up to snow or rain. However, if you live in one of the country’s desert areas, you’ll need to find a gazebo that can withstand the constant heat of the sun.

Canopy Gazebos

The canopy gazebos are very popular for home use because they are less expensive because the roof is made of a canopy material, which is cheaper to make than a wood roof with shingles is. Most people with these types of gazebos place lawn furniture under them and they make a relaxing place to chill out with friends or retreat to after a long day or work.

Regardless of the type of back yard gazebo you choose, you will enjoy the fact that they are very versatile. This allows you to be a bit creative when deciding how your new gazebo will be used.

A Juniper Bonsai tree should not dry out totally , or be continuously wet. If the soil feels dry about a half inch under the soil, it’s time to water. Bring it to a sink and water until it flows from the bottom. Wait about 15 minutes and then do it again . To remove the chlorine, fill a jug of water and allow it to sit for about 24 hours . Alternatively you can water from the bottom.

You can fertilize your bonsai once every four to six weeks in the winter and every 3 weeks in the summer, using a balanced tropical houseplant fertilizer at about 50% of the suggested concentration . Your Juniper likely will not grow a lot in the winter but when it does start to grow again in the spring , you can snip off the new growth to retain the shape of your Juniper .

You canspray your Juniper of place it in a shallow tray filled with pebbles and water to boost the local humidity .

If any of the branches on your Juniper Bonsai tree start to turn yellow, it’s likely because of under or over watering.

After something interesting to spruce up a boring area on your patio or outdoor living area ? There is nothing more visually pleasing than water features softly bubbling away in a small corner .

These days there are endless varieties of water features currently selling in many different materials . Thou frequently to find a water feature that fits just right is difficult . You might like to have an try yourself, why not ?. Pumps are available at any hardware , pipes at a local plumbing retailer and a pond at a speciality pond shop, some sort of feature to stick up straight in the pond from a pottery store . You might even expect to save a few dollars. For sure , it is possible but there are points you may want to consider .

These are some of the issues you can come up against .

To start with , the item you are going to display as the feature in the middle of the pond should have a hole in the bottom big enough to fit the tube you are using. In the case of a glazed pot you will require a particular drill bit most likely a rotary percussion. You can’t just start drilling at 22mm you’ll break the pot, begin with a smaller drill bit and work your way up .

Next you must purchase the suitable size pump. If the pump you purchase is too powerful the water will overshoot . Too weak it won’t do the job. It is best to buy one which has a capacity adjuster to slow down or speed up the water flow.

The pot/feature must seal correctly or the water will leak out of the pond when the water feature is disconnected

It is good to be able to maintain the pump without dismantling the entire feature .

Will the feature look good once it is all assembled? Will the water travel the way you are hoping ? Try to experiment or hunt down a similiar feature before you start out.

So with a bit of vision, some of your time you’ll be gazing at that water feature grateful you had a boring little nook as it now is an item of splendor.

Garden covers can make a huge difference to how long your garden furniture lasts and are a very cheap way of protecting your furniture. Garden furniture often costs hundreds and even thousands of pounds and therefore needs to be protected to ensure you are not throwing money down the drain.A set of garden covers will help to ensure your garden furniture is protected against the elements and stays looking perfect for a long time.If you have wooden furniture you especially need to ensure it is protected as this material can become rotten and begin to split if exposed to the elements for too long.Your smaller garden items such as parasols can also be protected with garden covers and there are many varieties

You can find garden covers in a range of different shapes, sizes and types and to fit your furniture perfectly so that it is protected all year round. They are readily available from garden centres and DIY stores, but you will never find a wide range of choices available so may be limited on the covers you can buy.DIY stores can only stock a small amount of the stock that is available whereas online retailers who specialise in one or two products can stock a whole lot more. You will also find that prices are much less expensive when you shop online giving you the chance to save a great deal of money in the process.

The elements can play havoc with your garden furniture so don’t leave your items unprotected.A set of garden covers is all you need to protect your furniture from damage caused by the sun, wind or rain.Garden covers also protect your items from dust and bird droppings and ensure they will look perfect when you next go to use them when the weather is warmer.Covers should really be used whenever your furniture is not being used, but at the very least you should protect your chairs, tables, parasols etc. during the colder and wetter periods of the year.It is not just wooden furniture that needs to be covered as metal, plastic and glass can also suffer damage from the elements.By covering all of your furniture including barbecues and parasols you can be sure these items will look and function at their best when they are next required.

With so much variety available you will be sure to find the right garden covers to suit all of your garden furniture.Taking measurements of your garden furniture will ensure your garden covers will give a tight fit and completely protect your items.Garden covers are very easy to fit and can be easily tied to ensure they fit snugly and that no water or other contaminants can enter. There is no better place to buy your garden covers that from an online retailer and the money you can save is significant. There is no reason why your garden furniture should be left at the mercy of the elements when inexpensive garden covers can potentially save you hundreds of pounds. If you are trying to find a new garden cover or a set of garden furniture covers, there is a huge number of online retailers selling these useful items.

Pretty much every paint will come off eventually, mainlybecause:
1. Metal expands and contracts
2. The metal remains very hot and very cold long after the apmospheric temperature changes, stressing the paint.

One of the easiest ways to add colour if you are making this art yourself is by encorperating things such as mosaic tiles, and large ceramic beads.

Remember to be creative- and never dismiss an idea untill you see it properly…. No artist is happy with thier work in progress!

Scrap metal garden art can be grand, simple, artsy, and fun. Making it yourself will simply make it more of whatever it is you want it to be. Scrap metal is just that. Any metal object or piece that you have that no longer has a specific function. These can be soup cans, unwanted silverware, scrap tin from siding, even tire rims. Add a bit of elbow grease, some sandpaper, possibly some spot welding, and an occasional topping of rustproof outdoor enamel spray paint, and you will be well on your way to creating some fabulous art for your own or a friend’s garden. Toss in some heavy-duty wire, wire cutters, and a tin punch, and you will be ready to make just about anything you can think of. The actual making of the artwork will be the easy part. Knowing what you are going to create will be the fun, but sometimes-uninformed part. Start out by studying what metal you have. Arrange pieces until you come up with an idea. If things are not coming together, maybe you will have to add to your scrap pile before continuing. Sometimes, assembling some common metal objects will spark an idea for a more original creation. One often seen piece of scrap garden art is a ‘tin man’ made from soup and coffee cans, along with a funnel hat. Lay out soup cans to form the head, arms, and legs, using the coffee can for the body. Punch a hole in the center of each can end to run wire through, keeping in mind that there is really no wrong way to assemble metal garden art. As long as it ‘works’ it’s right. Funnel hat can either be spot welded on or wired. An old wire hanger combined with antique silverware can be transformed into a beautiful garden wind chime. Tire rims, buffed with sandpaper to remove rust, and spray painted become the body of a garden creature, complete with arms made from old bed springs, and a head made from an abandoned kitchen pot. Thin sheet metal, along with a pair of tin snips, can be cut into a strip, and then twisted to create a wind catcher. Smaller strips can be cut then strung back together to form a wind ‘sounder’. A wind ‘sounder’ is similar to a wind chime except the sound created is much softer. Strips should be approximately three inches long, by one inch wide. String three or four long and as many wide. These can be hung from antique silverware or a small wire whisk for a circular effect. If you are familiar with the tools needed to cut metal such as stainless steel, you can cut out any shape imaginable, creating wind chimes, garden art stakes, and even three-dimensional garden critters by welding the stainless. One advantage of working with the stainless is it will never rust or corrode! Stainless can also be ‘burned’ with a torch to create a beautiful colored finish. Scrap garden art can be anything you want it to be, but mostly, it should be from your heart and soul. If you really want to make something and just don’t know where to start, doodle in a notebook whatever comes to mind. Think about what scrap items you already have, and browse second hand shops for more. But especially, have fun!

I have obtained a dresser, minus its 5 drawers. I want to turn it into a piece of “garden art.” Suggestions?

I have thought of adding mismatched drawers I have and planting them; or sliding plastic bins in the drawer spaces and planting them. Does anyone have any other creative ideas that would work? I think using cascading types of plants would be effective. I already have such items as bathtubs, a sink, wringer washing machine, laundry tubs, old metal tool box, cream separator, etc. planted and they are very fun and showy. My neighbor thinks I have completely lost it with the dresser idea and I would like to prove her wrong!! Thank you for any ideas.

Varnish the heck out of it so it won’t be lost to the weather. Next, take old slacks, jeans, and cut the legs off at various lengths. Then sew them up so they’re good and sturdy. Also do the same for long-johns.~~~~~~~~~~Next take small pieces of wood and hammer the front of the pants to the wood. ~~~~~Next hammer those to the inside of where the drawers would have gone.~~~~~~~~~~~~Next, fill the the slacks with potting soil and plant clever things so your neighbors can view your *New Dresser Drawers*!!!!!!!! HA! HA! HA! (You may want to use weights to hold the back of the dresser down)

I *wish* you were MY neighbor! You sound like alot of fun! I once used a potty seat as a birdbath!
